BLACK FRIDAY

Shop till you drop?

Hellooo! Welcome to the first official post on this blog.

From the title—or if you know me—you probably think this is going to be about all the amazing things I bought on Black Friday. WRONG. Today, I’m coming for you. Sorry, not sorry. You know the term "shop till you drop?" Yeah, let’s leave it behind.

So, as you guys know, a couple of weeks ago, it was Black Friday. As someone who recently developed a love for makeup and spending money, I was really excited when a workmate told me that Black Friday would land on the same day as our paycheck. The first thing I said was, “OH, Sephora awaits me!” So yeah, I was thrilled.

Then the days passed. Paycheck day arrives... Black Friday arrives... and guess what? The products I wanted (and needed) weren’t on sale. Sad, I know. But you’d think that I would be like, “Okay, maybe this is a sign to save money, right?” Wrong. I wasn’t going to be satisfied until I bought something—ANYTHING.

By the grace of God, I only ended up buying something I actually needed. But before I clocked in for work that day, my workmate hit me with:

“Everyone who buys something on Black Friday is dumb.”

WOW. At first, I was a little offended. But as the day went by, I noticed something.

There is this makeup brand (I won’t say the name because lowkey, I want to collaborate with them one day) that had a Black Friday sale, but it was NOT IT. The sale consisted of buying 3 products and getting 3 for free. You don’t actually get them for free—you just get a discount on the other 3 (so it’s only worth it if the prices are close or the same).

Why did my workmate’s comment stick with me? Because the day before, I went on their website and chose 3 things to put in my cart. Then I spent like 30 minutes on my phone looking for ANOTHER 3 just to get the sale. And that’s when it hit me:

I DIDN’T EVEN NEED 3, LET ALONE THE ADDITIONAL 3.

I was just forcing myself to buy things to “enjoy” Black Friday and have new stuff that—news flash—I didn’t actually need. And it wasn’t just me. I saw a lot of girls who ONLY wear lip gloss looking for five other products to buy.

Seeing my behavior projected on other people made me realize how brainwashed we’ve been INTO thinking we need more than what we actually do.

Are we just buying things for the sake of buying? I get the excitement of a good deal, but babe, do you really need your fifth mascara?

To conclude, I would say that I’ve been glamorizing the idea of having tons of makeup on my vanity and tons of clothes in my closet, but in reality, I don’t need most of the things I buy. I just like the idea of having lots of items. Most of the time, I buy things that I regret because, deep down, I know I didn’t need them.

Let me know what you think.

That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed it.

Thank you for tuning in! :)

  1. Reading this little post of yours made me realize that I spend money on things I don't really need.

I recently started to like makeup and Hailey Bieber launched Rhode, and like all girls who like the brand and the concept, I wanted to buy all possible products.

I always bought the new release as soon as it came out and cause of that consumerism, I have a total of 9 of her lipsticks.

Now I wonder why I bought so many if I won't need them?
I really have to start saving money
